Happy New Year

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

I’m off to Denver to ring in the new year, so I will not be able to respond to emails or check up on how things are going for about a week. I want to wish everyone a happy new year!

Round 3: Wild Ride

Friday, December 28th, 2007

It was a close race in Round 3 between Orbis and the World Society for the Protection of Animals. That was until I added Kiva to Vote4Cause a few days back. Kiva is backed by a strong community at KivaFriends that drove Kiva into 1st place. This was, in part, with the help of some auto-reload tools. While I think this type of method goes against the spirit of the site, it was a loophole that their users found and used. Since then, I have changed the voting procedure to not allow votes to be registered on refreshes. The site has evolved for the better and we still have a close race on our hands!

Current Top 3 (as of this posting):
1. Kiva - quite the leap
2. WSPA - so close
3. Orbis - one of these days!

Site Changes - Present and Future

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

A minor change that has already been implemented is that refreshes on the voting page aren’t allowed anymore. While it was technically allowed, using refresh tools takes away from the spirit of the site. Votes will now only be counted when the VOTE! link is clicked.

In addition, future voting rounds will be shortened to allow for a wider variety of organizations to have a chance at winning. I am also considering raising the voting wait to 60 seconds.

If you have any suggestions or want to weigh in on future changes, feel free to let me know. I have received some great feedback from Vote4Cause visitors!

Round 3 Spotlight: Support the Troops

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Vote4Cause is entering its third round of voting and has raised about $35 in less than a month. Thank you to everyone that has taken part in launching Vote4Cause and has spent time voting for their favorite organizations. Vote4Cause is growing and its due to your dedication.

In an effort to raise awareness to various types of charities, Vote4Cause will dedicate voting rounds to certain types of causes. It is the middle of December and that means it’s festive holiday time. It is worth taking a moment to recognize those that dedicate their lives to serving their country. Vote4Cause would like to dedicate the third round of voting to various military causes that take an active roll in supporting military personnel and their families.

Here is a breakdown of some worthy military charities available at Vote4Cause (as outlined by Charity Navigator):

American Red Cross

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society

Coast Guard Foundation

Army Emergency Relief

Armed Services YMCA of the USA

Special Operations Warrior Foundation

Fisher House Foundation

Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust

Air Force Enlisted Village

Air Force Aid Society

USO

Winner: 2nd Chance Wildlife Care Center

Monday, December 17th, 2007

The second round of voting at Vote4Cause came to a close on December 16th just before midnight. The winner is 2nd Chance Wildlife Care Center. This organization was submitted to Vote4Cause by Sheila. With 7673 votes, 2nd Chance Wildlife Care Center will receive a donation of $33.23 from Vote4Cause. This is over 7x the purse available in the first round of voting. Thank you to everyone that has spent time voting and supporting their favorite organizations. Let’s aim to continue this growth by informing friends about Vote4Cause. The more people spending time at Vote4Cause translates into larger donations to very worthy organizations!

Here is some information regarding 2nd Chance Wildlife Care Center:
2nd Chance Wildlife Care Center is a wild animal rescue and rehabilitation organization. It is run by an individual that has converted their home into caring for injured, orphaned, sick, and victimized wildlife. The lady that runs 2nd Chance performs surgeries and provides medication for those that need it as well as providing physical therapy if needed. She relies entirely on volunteers for help and on donations for funding.
