New Organizations

October 9th, 2008 by Marc

Quick update. I have gone through many of the Vote4Cause submissions and have added a variety of new organizations. Please continue sending me suggestions and I will try to add them as soon as possible. Thank you for continuing to support these great organizations!

Some of the new organizations added:

Mercy Corps

Pandas International

Invisible Youth Network

Friends of the Orphans

in case you hadn’t noticed marc…..
the same groups appear in the top 10 places, month after
    month after month, after month.
diversity is not a strong point with the power hungry
people here. they show no interest in empowering different
    causes.

  2. Kamilla Says:

Thanks for adding them Marc, good to see you are still keeping an eye on Vote4cause.

@Zon: Many organizations keep reapearing in the top 10, true, but still most week an organization wins that hasn’t won before.

And a brand new organization, Friends of the Orphans is currently at place #2

  3. Marena Chen Says:

Marc, please do something to revitalise the vote4cause site. When a cause can win with only 878 votes, it should be a wake-up call that there is something very wrong here. People have lost interest and only a few (less than a dozen) of us “die-hards” still make sporadic visits to vote.

Adding new causes is not the answer - unless you make it more interesting for people to want to come back to the site to support the causes. It’s a shame that this site has sunk to such low participation figures.

I kinow you have your own life - but so do we - yet the few of us die-hards are making the effort and have been keeping this site alive. For how much longer, is anyone’s guess. It would be a shame to see it die off.

Please bring back the two-minute vote or some other feature to re-generate the interest vote4cause once commanded.

  4. Marena Chen Says:

It’s been 15 days since I posted the above comment and it is STILL awaiting moderation. I hope you will look in here soon, as we are more or less “dying on our feet” here. It is quite obvious that you have the end of rounds and your pledge set on automatic. If things stay as they are now, I will be the next person to disappear from vote4cause.

  5. Marena Chen Says:

Oh well, you might as well delete my new post too, seeing that you have just now deleted the other one from 5/11 while I was writing that one.

  6. Marena Chen Says:

I have voted here without any interruptions for the last 41 causes since February. If you don’t need people like me - so be it. It’s no loss to me. Here is one more post for you to delete.

    Good bye

  7. Kamilla Says:

What a pity Marena to see you leave this site.

Best wishes and I hope to see you back here one day.

    Warmly,

    Kamilla

    Hi Marc,

Somehow #2 became the winner for this round. Approx. 1 hour before the end this was the result list:

#1 Central Asia Institute 1254 votes
#2 Dogs Deserve Better 1018 votes
#3 Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine 500 votes
#4 Natural Resources Defense Council VOTE 400 votes
#5 Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary 211 votes

So how come the pledgedrive is for Dogs Deserve Better?

I hope you will be able to correct it.

  9. Kamilla Says:

I’m sorry to see you have stopped to pledge a $10 donation for the winners Marc. I guess there are not enough visitors anymore to justify a weekly $10 donation. Is it possible to remove all the advertising, if you are not donating anymore? The site would look much less commercial that way.

  10. Claus-Peter Says:

    @ Marc:

I guess it would be helpful to give some explanations, why you have cancelled the $10 donation for the winners. The $10 donation was already quite a small amount of money.

On the other hand there is still a lot of advertisement on the site.

I agree with Kamilla, that all the advertising and no donations at all do not fit well together.

  11. Chris Says:

    Hi Marc,

It has been quite painfully obvious for the past few months that we have a down-and-dirty cheater on this site. While everyone else only has one vote, it so ridiculously obvious that Claus-Peter has rigged his computer to vote up to 4 times every five minutes. He’s not fooling anyone. This is grossly unfair to the other voters and the other causes that he doesn’t happen to support. Can he not be removed? Allowing him to continue to cheat week after week after week makes a farce of this site.

  12. Kamilla Says:

It was a great idea, over a year ago. To start a website full of charities and ads. You could vote for your favorite charity and all ad money was donated to the winning charity.

Now there are still a lot of charities to vote for and there are still lots of ads.

But with non of the admoney being donated I don’t see the point of visiting this site anymore, so this will be my last visit.

Thanks for the nice conversations, thanks for all the new charities I came to know. Be well all!

  13. Zon Says:

    Marc.
You ought to have the decency to let the folks that
have been loyal to this site that you have abandoned
them. Cop to the fact that you are no longer interested
    or that you got overwhelmed.

Now that you are making money off of ads, and no
longer contributing to winning causes, folks are
not happy. Total boycott has been suggested.
Is this what you want? Why don’t you just say so
    and take the site down??

  14. Alley Says:

Hey guys…Marc is very busy at med. school, and does care about the site. (or he would have taken it down) You all know, I am sure that it costs money to do anything these days, and running this site costs Marc money. Not enough comes in to run the site. It does give non-profits exposure and that is important. I know some folks who came to this site and before that had never heard of many of the groups.
What about just voting and chatting? what happened to that? It used to be fun. And I am NOT an employee of vote4cause! In fact I work for Alley Cat Rescue! But as a nonprofit, giving your group exposure and letting them know about your work, is often as important as money!! It eventually leads to donations.

  15. Zon Says:

    I don’t get it.
A group of people spent a week clicking to make
Vitamin Angels #1….. and not one of you has a
    dollar to donate???
    Official website: $1.00 donations accepted!

  16. Zon Says:

This round ends in: 3 DECADES, 9 YEARS, 2 MONTHS!!!!

Clearly there is a problem that Marc needs to fix.
Yet, people continue to vote? One must be hard
core addicted to even consider clicking away when
we all know this round is a total waste of time.
Until Marc re-sets the site, IF he does, why bother?

  17. Zon Says:

    Marc,
Yesterday I noticed that someone was voting all
afternoon for USO but the votes did not register.
After seeing that USO did not show up in the standings,
I went into the “All Causes”, where it showed 0 votes
so I clicked on USO just to see if it registered. 3 of
my 3 clicks did, but none of the others did. So, for
many hours USO kept showing as “The latest vote”
    but did not record.

Is this why USO came into this round 100 votes ahead
of everyone else? If so, that’s nice, but an explanation
would have been a good idea.

    ?

  18. Zon Says:

Once again, someone is voting and the the clicks
are not counting. It shows two current voters,
but the count is only going up by one.

    ??????

  19. CP Says:

@ Zon: Obviously the v4c system is not working properly. This round the effected cause is starting with an advantage of more than 1.100 votes in front of all other causes

    !!!!!!!!!
